Affirmations for SELF ESTEEM & SELF WORTH
Self esteem and self worth are used interchangeably but there is a significant difference between them. According to Dr. Christine Hibbert, “Self esteem is what we think and feel and believe about ourselves. Self worth is recognizing ‘I am greater than all those things’. It is a deep knowing that I am of value, that I am lovable, necessary to this life and of incomprehensible worth.”
Self esteem is the way we feel about what we do. Self worth is knowing that we are good and that we deserve happiness and fulfilment. It is the knowledge that what we do is not what we are. Eg. A high paying executive in a company may have high self esteem given his position and accomplishments. And yet he may feel that he is unworthy of love and happiness. In contrast, a struggling intern in the same company could still feel that he is worthy and deserving of happiness and fulfilment though what he is doing right now may not reflect it.
Low self esteem issues are more to do with what is currently happening in our lives. With a little focus and effort we can make improvements in career, finances, relationships etc and this automatically boosts our self confidence, sense of achievement and self esteem. Low self worth however could imply limiting beliefs which prevent us from being open to happiness, love and success. It could stem from a belief that we are not enough, or that we are unworthy or not deserving of love and happiness.
The affirmations listed below are designed to boost both self esteem as well as self worth. Do keep in mind that the key to any transformation is to practice self love and self acceptance. It is only when you love and respect yourself the way you are that you can bring in happiness, love and peace. Watch out for the next post which will focus entirely on Self Love.
